What we don’t do

- Lease checks, which are for you and your building’s managers
- New lights or sockets
- Building a new partition wall
If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

Walk-in wardrobes in Westbourne Green: what you get
Most designs start with the hanging. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, while double hanging, one rail above another, fits shirts and jackets into half the height. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. Typical reasons to get in touch are a built-in dressing table and a calmer, clearer bedroom, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Older bedrooms normally have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Westbourne Green date from then. Fitted furniture can run right up to the ceiling or the cornice, with high storage for the things you use least. Original mouldings are worked around rather than removed.
Our quotes are written in plain words. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Questions we are often asked
Does a conservation area in or near Westbourne Green affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
My home in Westbourne Green is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
What happens when you come to measure?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
How are walk-in wardrobes priced?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we’ve measured. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form.
Can a box room become a walk-in wardrobe?
In many homes, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls and still leave room to move. We’ll measure and plan it at the design visit.
Do you do the electrics for the lighting?
No, wiring is for your electrician. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the units and plan space for the lighting you want.
Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Westbourne Green?
Couples sharing a wardrobe often want more space each. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so neither of you is squeezed.
Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:
- Room for a growing wardrobe
- Proper shoe storage
- The right mix of long and short hanging
- A side each for a couple
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mary Magdalene, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- How parking will work on your street
- A written quote that sets out the job
- How doors and drawers are fitted
From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. On fitting day, edges are trimmed on site to follow the walls, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. We keep dust down and tidy as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.
- You contact us about a walk-in wardrobe or dressing room.
- At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the units in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The units are brought in, assembled and set level.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
Getting a quote
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
Advice
What it is made from
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers suit smaller things, and they can sit below the hanging or within a run of shelves.
Shelves
Shelves suit folded clothes, bags and boxes. Spans and depths are sized so they don’t sag.
Walk-in wardrobes in Westbourne Green: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Westbourne Green were built before 1919 (about 67%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 12%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. The National Heritage List has 188 entries within half a mile of the centre of Westbourne Green. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your street in Westbourne Green joins a main road, it’s worth telling us during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
For a flat near London Paddington station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. The wider area includes historic houses such as Kensington Palace, about 1 mile south. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Before the design visit
To help us picture the room, please include:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- The type of home and how the room is reached
Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
