Willesden Green Walk-in Wardrobes

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Willesden Green starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
  • Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts
  • A side each for a couple

About our walk-in wardrobes in Willesden Green

Good light helps you see colours and find things. Wiring for new lights is a job for your electrician. We plan the units with your electrician’s work in mind, and agree the details during the design visit. We make walk-in wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a side each for a couple and moving wardrobes out of the bedroom.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of homes around Willesden Green are that old. That height can be used, with fitted furniture taken up to the cornice and top cupboards for occasional things. Picture rails, skirting boards and coving are met neatly or cut around.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Willesden Green

About 69% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Willesden Green went up before 1919, and about 11% between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Willesden Green is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. All of London, Brent included, is inside the ULEZ. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Willesden Green. Parking and access are planned during the design visit.

For a flat near Kensal Rise station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Andrew, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. The wider area includes historic houses such as Fenton House, about 2.5 miles north-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.

Willesden Green is about 1 mile east of Kilburn, within the London Borough of Brent. Willesden Green is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. We cover places right across Brent, large and small.

We cover every part of NW10, NW2 and NW6 for walk-in wardrobes. You’ll find streets here such as Fry Road, High Road and Dean Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for walk-in wardrobes. Nearby, we also make walk-in wardrobes in Willesden (1 mile north), College Park (1 mile south), Kensal Green (1 mile south), Harlesden (1 mile south-west) and Kensal Rise (1 mile south-east). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places like Wembley (3 miles north-west), Kenton (4 miles north-west), Alperton (3 miles west), North Wembley (3 miles west), Brondesbury Park (3 miles west) and Wembley Park (3 miles north-west).

Around Willesden Green

Our area takes in the homes around Green Man Public House, Brondesbury College and Capital City Academy and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Kensal Rise station, about 0.7 miles south-east of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Brent Museum and Archives (under half a mile north) and Neasden Hospital (1.4 miles north-west). Green spaces nearby include Westbere Copse.

What we don’t do

Not everything around walk-in wardrobes is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Painting the walls of the room
  • Electrical work in the room
  • Curing damp in the walls

Not sure whether your space suits walk-in wardrobes? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it is made from

  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Dressing table
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

  • Birch plywood
  • Hand-painted finish

Materials and finishes

Moisture-resistant MDF

On a cooler external wall, moisture-resistant MDF is a sensible choice, alongside good ventilation.

Doors and drawer fronts

We make doors in a style that suits the room, painted to match. Some areas can be left open.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Willesden Green?

Yes. Willesden Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Brent and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

My house in Willesden Green is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?

Often, yes. A box room can take hanging, shelves and drawers on its walls and still leave room to move. We check the room at the measuring visit.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Electrical work isn’t something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and any new sockets are best done before fitting day.

Can I send pictures ahead of the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

From workshop to your room

Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. First, you tell us about the space and how you dress. It could be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom.
  2. We visit, measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the layout, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The units are built in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Before fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall

Related advice

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

Neither choice is right for every home. For a simple space, off-the-shelf can do the job. For awkward rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Tall standalone furniture needs fixing back to the wall so it can’t tip, and older walls of brick or lath and plaster make that harder than it looks. With fitted pieces, the fixings are planned for the wall from the start.

Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

Why us?

  • We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • More than 300 projects completed
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls

Flats, blocks and rented homes

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t advise on your lease.
