Walk-in wardrobes for your home in North Wembley
How we make walk-in wardrobes for North Wembley
A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, so we allow for it in the design. Most enquiries start with hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around North Wembley, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. Small rooms like that suit walk-in wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Questions we’re often asked
Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in North Wembley?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Is North Wembley in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?
Yes. North Wembley is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Brent and London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work, but it helps to be around at the end.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.
How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Interwar houses normally have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, though we still measure the route in as well as the room. Walk-in wardrobes arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.
- We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold, from long coats to shoes.
- We visit to measure up and go through the layout, including any dressing table.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- The units are made and finished in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. We then check the doors and drawers with you.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
How to get a quote

Looking after your furniture
These points come up often when people plan walk-in wardrobes. They help before and after fitting:
- Have damp sorted before fitting
- Measure how much long hanging you need
- Think about where shoes and bags will go
- Know what you will keep before planning
Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. Your lease is something to check with whoever manages the building.
Boards, parts and paint
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers suit smaller things, and they can sit below the hanging or shelves.
Hand-painted finish
If you’d like the units to match the room’s woodwork, hand painting on site works well.
What it costs
When we put a quote together, we consider:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit.
Getting in touch
Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you get in touch, it is useful to send:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, message us from the contact page. The written quote follows the visit.
Bedroom storage in North Wembley
The biggest shares of homes in the area around North Wembley were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and since 2000 (about 22%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. North Wembley is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. All of London, Brent included, is inside the ULEZ. Vans bringing furniture to North Wembley fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access at the design visit.
Near listed buildings like Church of St John, less than half a mile south-east of the centre of North Wembley, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. For a family home near Park Lane Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Preston Park, a bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
