Need wall beds in Brackenbury Village?
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
How we make wall beds for Brackenbury Village
Safety starts with the fixing: the mechanism is fixed as its maker specifies, to a wall and floor that can take the load. We check the wall and floor at the measuring visit, because the fixing has to suit what the wall is made of. If you’re living with a spare room that’s rarely slept in and storage built around a fold-down bed, wall beds made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
In houses built before 1919, a floor can drop noticeably from one side of a room to the other, which matters around Brackenbury Village, as a large share of homes there date from before 1919. Fitted furniture sits on a plinth or adjustable feet set level, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the wall bed designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

How we price wall beds
Several things affect the price:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Parking near your home
- The internal fittings
- The width and height of the space
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
What we need to know
These details help when you contact us:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- How you want to use the space
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Your postcode and the borough
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Fitting day, step by step
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there. The bed can sit among shelves or beside a desk.
- At the design visit we measure the room and check the wall and floor.
- We send a written quote for the bed cabinet and storage, ready to check.
- We build and finish everything in our workshop.
- We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies. We show you how the bed works before we leave.
How to prepare
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to

Brackenbury Village homes and wall beds
About 63% of the homes in the streets around Brackenbury Village went up before 1919, and about 12% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Brackenbury Village is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 63% of homes in the area around Brackenbury Village were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Older houses can have lath-and-plaster internal walls and floors that slope, both of which matter when fixing a wall bed.
If your children go to Brackenbury Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to Cathnor Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.

More about wall beds
Do you need wall beds in Brackenbury Village?
A flexible room is useful as needs change. We often hear from people who want a playroom or study that can still sleep guests without giving up the floor.
Here’s what wall beds can help with:
- Shelves or a desk around the bed
- A study that doubles as a spare room
- A bed that looks like cupboards by day
- A playroom that can sleep visitors
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of the Holy Innocents, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design.

Common questions about wall beds
I live in a flat in Brackenbury Village. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Do you cover homes near Shepherds Bush station?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
How are wall beds priced?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each wall bed is different, so we price it after measuring. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
