Wall beds for your home in Maida Vale
Wall beds in Maida Vale
Our wall beds are made for homes in Maida Vale and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, followed by a quote. The cabinets are made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Most enquiries start with somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep and a spare room that’s rarely slept in, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Floors in older houses often slope, which matters around Maida Vale, as a large share of homes there date from before 1919. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. The scribe at the wall takes up any bow in the plaster.
You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Common questions about wall beds
Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Maida Vale?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Maida Vale?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
What space does a fold-down bed take up?
You need clear floor in front of the cabinet for the bed to fold down, on top of the cabinet’s own depth. We check the space when we measure, so the design works.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. You can send them when you fill in our short enquiry form.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Do you work for landlords and letting agents?
Yes. The process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, then the furniture is made and fitted. If the property is let, the agent can arrange access with the tenants.
Caring for painted furniture
These points come up often when people plan wall beds. They help whatever the room:
- Decide who the bed is mainly for
- Keep children away while the bed moves
- Check your lease if you live in a flat
- Mention if the wall is a stud wall
Should the bed start to move differently, stop and let us know. The mechanism should only be adjusted as its maker allows.
Tell us what the wall is made of if you know. Solid brick, stud walls and plasterboard need different fixings, and we check it at the measuring visit too.
Is bespoke worth it?
A wall bed is fixed to the house, so it stays when you move. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before choosing built-in. The two recesses beside a chimney breast are seldom an identical size, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Fitted furniture is made to each one separately.
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

From workshop to your room
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the bed, the cabinets and the wall it fixes to, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- We come to measure and discuss the bed, the storage and the finish.
- You receive a written quote covering the design, materials and finish.

- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
