Wall beds in Bush Hill Park
About our wall beds in Bush Hill Park
You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, so we plan the layout with that in mind. We think about where a chair, rug or desk will go when the bed is down. Typical reasons to get in touch are room for a desk and a guest bed and a living room with a bed that folds away, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Bush Hill Park, bedrooms typically have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Why bespoke in Bush Hill Park?
Off-the-shelf units can leave gaps at the sides or top. We can build to the full height and width and fill the rest of the wall with storage. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Common questions about wall beds
I live near Bush Hill Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.
Will a conservation area stop me having wall beds fitted in Bush Hill Park?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
What space does a fold-down bed take up?
That comes down to the size of the bed. At the design visit we measure the room and check there is enough space in front.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
What it costs
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How big the furniture is
- Spray painting or hand painting
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, and the quote follows.
What to send when you contact us
Ahead of the design visit, we will typically ask about:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- The type of home and how the room is reached
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the room and how often guests stay is plenty.
- We visit to measure up, look at the wall and floor and make sure there is clear space in front to lower the bed.
- You receive a quote in writing for the wall bed and any storage.
- The bed housing and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinet goes in, the mechanism is fixed securely and the bed is tried out.
- Before we leave we show you how to lower and lift the bed.
Before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
How to get a quote
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, drop us a line using the contact form.

More for homes in Bush Hill Park
Flat-pack or bespoke?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Do you need wall beds in Bush Hill Park?
Others want the bed to be part of a wider storage wall. Cupboards and shelving either side make the whole wall useful.
We are often asked to help with:
- Shelves or a desk around the bed
- A studio that works by day and night
- A bed that looks like cupboards by day
- A spare room that’s rarely slept in
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The Tower, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Bush Hill Park

The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. Bush Hill Park is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your street in Bush Hill Park joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
If you live in a flat close to Bush Hill Park station, wall beds are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
