How we make wall beds for Enfield
Not every mattress suits every wall bed, because the mechanism maker sets limits on size, depth and weight. We’ll talk through what suits the bed at the measuring visit, so the mattress you choose fits. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a living room with a bed that folds away and hiding the bed when it’s not in use.
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.
- You get in touch with some details about the room. Mention who the bed is for.
- The design visit covers measuring, the wall and the layout.
- A quote in writing is sent to you.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The wall bed is fitted in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies.
Quotes in Enfield
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

Ask for a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Wall beds for homes across Enfield
Enfield has bedrooms of every shape, from bay-fronted rooms in older houses to tight rooms in modern flats. Wall beds are drawn up to suit the room you actually have.
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 35% of the housing in Enfield, with about 23% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. About 35% of homes in Enfield date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. 26 of the 26 places in Enfield with their own pages here have their centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. The rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission.
Enfield is part of the area we cover, which takes in all 32 boroughs and the City. If you’re unsure about access or parking, mention it when you contact us.
Edmonton: If your children go to Brettenham Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Lamb's Cottage, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
When you need someone else
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Wiring for lights or chargers
- Strengthening or rebuilding a wall
- Supplying mattresses
Flats, blocks and rented homes
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.
What it’s made from
Moisture-resistant MDF
We use moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, giving the front a smooth finish.
Hand-painted finish
Some people like the softer look of a hand-painted finish in a period room.
What affects the price in Enfield
There is no set price, because there is no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- How many doors and drawers there are
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How big the furniture is
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Let us know about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
Helping us understand the room
These details help when you contact us:
- How you want to use the space
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
To get a quote for wall beds in Enfield, get in touch through our contact form. Let us know which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, with sizes if you have them. We will arrange a design visit, then send a quote in writing.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard units seldom reach the ceiling or fit wall to wall. A bespoke cabinet can run the full width and height, with storage or shelves filling the rest of the wall.
What to check before you book
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- How parking will work on your street
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Whether they measure the room themselves
FAQs: wall beds in Enfield
What if my walls and floors are out of level?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Is the furniture made to order?
Everything is made at our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. It is built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Which boards do you build with?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes, and the quote says which is used where.
How long does fitting take?
Every room is different. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know before we start.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Can landlords use you for a rented flat?
Yes. We make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let as well as for householders. Access has to be agreed with the tenants for the visit and for fitting day.
