Wall beds for homes in Sipson

You need room in front of the cabinet to lower the bed, so we plan the layout with that in mind. We think about where a chair, rug or desk will go, so the bed can come down without a shuffle. We make wall beds from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are shelves or a desk around the bed and a living room with a bed that folds away.

In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms can be anything from a box room to a big front room. Wall beds can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Every wall in Sipson homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

From workshop to your room

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and your quote sets out the fitting days. On fitting day, the sections are assembled, scribed to the walls and levelled. The fixings suit whatever the walls are made of. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how often the bed is used.
  2. We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to. We also check there is clear space in front to lower the bed.
  3. We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
  4. We build and finish the bed housing and storage in our workshop.
  5. The bed and cabinets are fitted in your home and the mechanism fixed securely. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.

Before fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Starting with a design visit

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, message us from the contact page. The written quote follows the visit.

Advice

FAQs: wall beds in Sipson

Is parking a problem for fitting in Sipson?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Is Sipson in the area you cover for wall beds?

Yes, Sipson is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

What space does a fold-down bed take up?

The bed needs room in front of it to come down, on top of the cabinet’s own depth. We check the space when we measure and plan the layout around it.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Tips worth knowing

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Plan a cupboard for spare bedding
  • Keep the floor in front clear before lowering the bed
  • Measure the clear space in front of the wall
  • Treat new paintwork gently at first

Should the bed start to move differently, stop and let us know. Do not try to adjust the mechanism yourself unless its maker says you can.

Measure the space in front of the wall, not just the wall. You need clear space for the bed to come down, so think about where a chair or desk will go.

How it is made

Hand-painted finish

If you’d like the bed to match the skirting or doors, hand painting works well.

Bed mechanism housing

We design the housing around the mechanism and the bed size you choose.
