Wall beds in Temple Mills

About our wall beds in Temple Mills

Our wall beds are made for homes in Temple Mills and all over London. First comes a design visit, where we measure and look at the wall, followed by a quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know beforehand. Typical reasons to get in touch are a bed that looks like cupboards by day and a spare room that’s rarely slept in; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Many newer homes have tall windows or full-height glazing in the bedroom, which leaves fewer walls for storage. That’s worth planning for around Temple Mills, where many homes date from 2000 onwards, so we make the most of the walls you have. Corners are designed in rather than left as dead space.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Why people ask for wall beds in Temple Mills

Some want a room that can change as the family does. We often hear from people who want a playroom or study that can still sleep guests without giving up the floor.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A spare room that’s rarely slept in
  • A home office that also sleeps guests
  • A storage wall with a bed inside
  • A real mattress for visitors

If your children go to Chobham Academy or a school nearby, the inside of wall beds can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?

Temple Mills homes and wall beds

Homes built since 2000 make up about 84% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Temple Mills, with about 8% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Temple Mills, Historic England’s list includes Gainsborough School (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, may need listed building consent from the council. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 84% of homes around Temple Mills were built since 2000, well above the figure for Newham as a whole, about 29%, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

Sutton House, about 1.6 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice. For an older house near St Eleutherius, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.

Flats, conversions and lettings

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.

Common questions about wall beds

Can you make wall beds for a home in Temple Mills?

Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Temple Mills is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

How do you fit wall beds in a flat in Temple Mills?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Wall beds are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Is a wall bed safe?

Wall beds are made for regular use as long as they’re fixed and used as the maker specifies. We fix the mechanism securely to a sound wall or floor, and the maker’s guidance on use should always be followed.

How much time does fitting need?

The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

How are wall beds priced?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each wall bed is different, so we price it after measuring. To get started, message us from the contact page.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

What happens on fitting day

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily.

  1. We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and check the wall and floor, as the bed must be fixed securely.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready to check.
  4. We build and finish everything in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit it in your home, with the mechanism fixed as its maker specifies. We show you how the bed works before we leave.

Before fitting day

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

How to get a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Practical tips

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Decide who the bed is mainly for
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Leaseholders: check your lease first
  • Plan a cupboard for spare bedding

Check the mattress stays within the limits the mechanism maker sets, as a heavier one can affect how the bed balances. If you change the mattress later, check it against those limits.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on your lease.

Pricing wall beds in Temple Mills

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • How big the furniture is

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
