About our wall beds in Maryland
Our wall beds are made for homes in Maryland and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure the room and check the wall, then a written quote. We make everything in our workshop and fit it in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make wall beds from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a guest room that sits empty most of the time and a home office that also sleeps guests.
Many homes around Maryland were built since 2000, and a newer bedroom seldom comes with storage that fits how you live. We design wall beds around the window, the radiator and the door, so the room still works. In a managed block, the lift and delivery rules are worth checking before fitting day.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

What affects the price in Maryland
The price for your room depends on:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- The width and height of the space
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.
What to send when you get in touch
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
For a quote for wall beds in Maryland, message us from the contact page. Let us know the room and the rough idea. Next comes a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.
More for homes in Maryland
From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Before fixing into a stud wall, we check for pipes and cables, with heavier pieces tied into the studs. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing.
- You contact us about a wall bed for a spare room or studio.
- We visit to measure the room and the way in, from the front door to the room itself. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop we build the bed cabinet in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The cabinet is joined in the room, fixed securely and set level.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

What prompts wall beds in Maryland
Studio flats and small one-bedroom flats are another reason. A bed that folds up gives you a living room in the day and a bedroom at night.
Wall beds can help with:
- A hobby room with a bed for guests
- Shelves or a desk around the bed
- More floor space in a studio flat
- Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep
If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St John the Evangelist, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Real projects you can actually look at
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
Wall beds in Maryland: local notes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 55% of the housing in the streets around Maryland, with about 19% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Maryland include The Theatre Royal (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and University House (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for example removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.
If you live in a flat close to Stratford (London) station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Sutton House, about 2.1 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give wall beds room to reach the cornice.
Maryland is about 2 miles south-east of Plaistow, in the London Borough of Newham. Wherever you are in Maryland, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Our Newham coverage includes Maryland and the places around it.
Every home in E15, E20 and E7 is covered for wall beds. You will find streets here like Cam Road, Ward Road and Wise Road, and we cover homes on all of them for wall beds. We also cover Stratford (1 mile west), East Village (1 mile north-west), Temple Mills (1 mile north-west), West Ham (1 mile south-east) and Holloway Down (1 mile north). Elsewhere in Newham, we also cover Plaistow (2 miles south-east), Canning Town (2 miles south-east), East Ham (3 miles east), Upton Park (2 miles east), Greengate (2 miles south-east) and Plashet (2 miles east).
Landmarks near Maryland
We fit furniture in homes around The Two Puddings pub, Carpenters Primary School and Sarah Bonnell School and the streets around them. Maryland has its own railway station: Stratford (London) station. Well-known places in the area include Passmore Edwards Museum (0.5 miles east) and Queen Mary's Hospital for the East End (under half a mile east). For a walk, there’s Old Ford Island.
Is bespoke worth it?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than a quick order. What you get is one design that suits the room and the way you use it. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often does not get them. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.
What you get with us
- Workshop-made and fitted by us
- Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement
- Every London borough and the City of London covered
- Built around your room
Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Your questions about wall beds in Maryland
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Maryland?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do you make wall beds for homes in Maryland?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and Maryland is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
My walls aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Walls and floors that aren’t true are part of the job in older homes. We trim the edges to follow the wall and level the base, so it sits tight to the room.
Will you provide a mattress for the bed?
The mechanism maker sets limits on mattress size and weight. We go through the mechanism’s limits when we measure, so you can choose with confidence.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We will design around them.
