How we make wall beds for Turnham Green
The cabinet is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray painted in our workshop or hand painted. Doors on the front can look like a run of cupboards, so the room does not read as a bedroom by day. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a bed that looks like cupboards by day and a real mattress for visitors.
Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. That layout is worth knowing around Turnham Green, where a large share of homes were built before 1919. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the wall bed designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Practical tips
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Allow space for pillows and duvets
- Lower and lift the bed steadily
- Let us know what the wall is made of if you know
- Measure the clear space in front of the wall
Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch in if the cabinet gets a knock. A spray finish wipes clean and stays smooth and even.
Think about the route into the room. Furniture made in a workshop comes in sections sized for stairs, landings and lifts, so it helps to know about tight turns.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
If you may move soon, a standalone bed you can take with you could suit you better. How long you will be in the home is worth weighing up before choosing built-in. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

FAQs: wall beds in Turnham Green
Can you fit wall beds to the uneven walls of an older house in Turnham Green?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Do you make wall beds for homes in Turnham Green?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Turnham Green is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
What happens at the design visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Is a wall bed safe for everyday use?
Safety depends on a secure fixing and sensible use. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out, and you keep the space in front clear and children away while it moves.
What wall beds cannot fix
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Advice on your lease
- Structural work to the wall or floor
- Choosing a mattress for you
Not sure whether your space suits wall beds? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls during the design visit.

How fitting day works
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Scribing is done on site, which means some cutting in the room or close by, so a clear area to work in near the room helps. Dust is kept down and cleared up as we go. Where the finish is hand-painted, it can be done after the pieces are in.
- You contact us about a wall bed for a spare room or studio.
- We visit to measure the room and the way in, from the front door to the room itself. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- We send a written quote.
- In our workshop we build the bed cabinet in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We carry the sections in, assemble them and fix the mechanism as its maker specifies, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
