Window seats for your home in Duckett's Green
Window seats for homes in Duckett's Green
We make each window seat in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood gives the seat its strength, as it’s strong and holds screws firmly, while MDF takes paint well for the fronts and panels. It’s then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Duckett's Green. People normally come to us about a child’s room that needs storage and seating and off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Hallways in period terraces are often long and narrow, with the stairs rising along one wall. A large share of the homes around Duckett's Green were built before 1919, so every bit of depth is weighed up when storage is planned. Shallow units keep the way through clear.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Questions from Duckett's Green
Do you cover homes near Hornsey station?
Yes. We cover all of Haringey and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is Duckett's Green in the area you cover for window seats?
Yes. Duckett's Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.
What does a bespoke window seat cost?
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. A bay with angled sides involves more work than a straight recess, and drawers more than a lid. We set it all out in a written quote.
Duckett's Green homes and window seats
About 62% of the homes in the streets around Duckett's Green went up before 1919, and about 12% since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of Duckett's Green, 6 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. About 30% of households in the area around Duckett's Green live in terraced houses, the 2021 Census shows. Bay and sash windows are common in London terraces, and suit a window seat.
If your home is one of the older houses near Christ Church, the deep reveals of an older window can frame a seat neatly. If you live near Ducketts Common, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and window seats can give those things a place. Near listed buildings like The Salisbury Public House, about 0.5 miles south of the centre of Duckett's Green, older homes may keep original joinery that window seats can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
Duckett's Green is about 1 mile north-east of Tottenham, in the London Borough of Haringey. Design visits and fitting in N15, N22 and N8 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. What we do not do
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Plastering and decorating around the seat
- Fixing the window itself
- Any wiring, which needs an electrician
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.
Materials and parts
- Birch plywood
- Radiator grilles
- Hand-painted finish
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Lift-up lids or drawers
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
With a ready-made bench, the colour is the maker’s choice. Ours is spray-painted or hand-painted in a colour agreed with you, so it sits with the skirting, the shutters or the walls. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Why choose us
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Designed for the room you have
- Every quote follows a design visit

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.

Fitting day, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it is useful to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- It starts when you contact us about a window seat.
- We visit to measure and talk about how you will use the seat.
- A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed.
- Your window seat is made at our workshop, shaped to the window.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use.
Before fitting day
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance
How to get a quote
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.

Caring for painted furniture
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Choose a colour that suits the room
- Make sure any shutters still open fully
- Decide on cushion thickness before the design visit
- Think about what you’ll store under the seat
A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the seat clean. Dry it afterwards, and avoid abrasive pads and strong solvents. The front edge picks up marks first.
Use a step rather than standing on the seat. Standing on it can mark the paint and strain the lid. It will look better for longer with a little care.
