Bespoke Kitchens in Belsize Park

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Belsize Park starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • More storage in a small kitchen
  • Tall larder storage

Bespoke kitchens designed for your room

Is bespoke worth it?

Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. Bespoke joinery can be made for the exact space, with the same finish as the cabinets. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Why choose us

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Belsize Park

Our bespoke kitchens are fitted in Belsize Park and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and go through the layout, then a quote in writing. The cabinets are built in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan around it. We make kitchens from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are spaces sized for your oven and fridge and a kitchen that fits an uneven room.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Belsize Park date from then. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

An extension or a knocked-through room is a common starting point. A new room needs a kitchen planned for its shape and light, and building work itself is for your builder.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A kitchen planned around your appliances
  • A kitchen finished in your colours
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen
  • More storage in a small kitchen

For a family home near Fine Arts College, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Have they thought about parking near you?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

Flats, leases and landlords

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so the furniture comes in sections sized for the route in. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

Before we arrive

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Empty the space we will be working in
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

How to get a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Kitchens in Belsize Park: local notes

Homes built before 1919 make up about 46% of the housing in the streets around Belsize Park, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Belsize Park include Belsize Fire Station (Grade II*), less than half a mile west, and Church of St Silas the Martyr (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 30% of households in the area around Belsize Park live in flats in converted or shared houses, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a converted house, rooms can be odd shapes, with new partitions meeting old walls, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.

Keats House, about 0.8 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Mary the Virgin, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

My home in Belsize Park is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you’ve picked. Knowing their sizes early helps, and your quote sets out what’s included.

How much time does fitting need?

It depends on the kitchen. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
