Fitted Wardrobes in Belsize Park
We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Belsize Park, designed around the room you have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
- Too little room for clothes
- A tight bedroom where doors get in the way

How we make fitted wardrobes for Belsize Park
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window. The layout is planned so the room doesn’t feel boxed in. Typical reasons to get in touch are gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and wardrobes that are full to bursting; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Around Belsize Park, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. Fitted furniture can fill the alcoves, wrap round the chimney breast or run across a whole wall. Because older floors slope and walls bow, everything is scribed and levelled on site.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?
Sharing a bedroom means sharing the wardrobe. We can plan separate sections for each person, each with the rails, shelves and drawers its owner needs.
If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:
- Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- A bedroom that never feels tidy
Near listed buildings like Belsize Fire Station, less than half a mile west of the centre of Belsize Park, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
What to check before you book
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
What it is made from
Hanging rails
We keep the top rail at a height you can reach. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.
Spray-painted finish
Spraying in the workshop means the doors come to your home finished, in the colour agreed with you. Give the paint time to cure fully.

Questions we are often asked
Can you fit furniture in a home close to South Hampstead station?
Yes, homes across Camden and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
My home in Belsize Park is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Yes, that’s normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.
Do I choose the paint colour?
The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
How much will my fitted wardrobe cost?
Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. The written quote follows the design visit.
What fitted wardrobes can’t fix
Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.
What goes into it
- Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hand-painted finish
- Hinged or sliding doors
- Birch plywood
- Spray-painted finish
From workshop to your room
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van typically needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
How to get a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Bedrooms in Belsize Park: local notes
About 46% of the homes in the streets around Belsize Park went up before 1919, and about 23% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Part of Belsize Park is in the Belsize Park Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. For fitting in Belsize Park, a van normally needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking near your home at the measuring visit.
For families living near Fine Arts College, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Living in a block of flats near South Hampstead station? Then fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

We fit furniture in homes around St. Mary's Town and Country School, Cecil Sharp House and The Washington pub. Belsize Park’s nearest station is South Hampstead station, about 0.7 miles west. Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
