Questions we are often asked

I live near Shepherds Bush station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

My home in Brackenbury Village is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

How long does fitting take?

Every kitchen is different. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you can plan your other trades around it.

About our bespoke kitchens in Brackenbury Village

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, sized to what you keep in them. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a kitchen planned around your appliances and an island where space allows.

Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and around Brackenbury Village, a large share of homes are that age. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Moisture-resistant MDF suits a kitchen, and the paint finish is agreed in your quote.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Before and after fitting day

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Think about how the cabinets will get in
  • Let us know how parking works on your street
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Deal with damp walls first

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Damp behind units can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Brackenbury Village

Homes built before 1919 make up about 63% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Brackenbury Village, with about 12% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Brackenbury Village include Church of the Holy Innocents (Grade II*), under half a mile south-west, and Greenside School (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in Brackenbury Village is on or beside a main road, it’s useful to mention that during the design visit. We’ll plan where the van can stop.

If you live near Cathnor Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. For a flat near Shepherds Bush station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For a family home near Brackenbury Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.

Preparing the room

  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Wiring for appliances and lights
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Plumbing, which is for your plumber

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Larders and dressers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is easy to buy.
