Bespoke kitchens in North End: what you get
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth giving a level line for the worktop you choose. People normally come to us about a kitchen that fits an uneven room and a kitchen island with room around it, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
In a period terrace, the front door, hall and any turn into the kitchen limit the size of each piece. A large share of the homes around North End date from before 1919, so the route to the kitchen is measured at the design visit. Long runs are made in sections and joined on site, with the joins placed where they won’t show.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

From workshop to your room
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Older London houses often have narrow hallways and tight turns on the stairs, so kitchens are made in sections sized to get through. Floors, stairs and doorways are covered before anything is carried through.
- You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
- We visit to measure and discuss the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
- A written quote follows, with the finish agreed.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
- Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician; new paintwork needs gentle use while it cures.
How to prepare
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
How to get a quote
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Flats, conversions and lettings
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Your questions about bespoke kitchens in North End
Is parking a problem for fitting in North End?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you cover homes near Kensington Olympia station?
Yes, homes across Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
What are your kitchens made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Usually not. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. If the building is listed, works affecting its character may need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Why bespoke in North End?
Ready-made cabinets often have chipboard carcasses. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, so the finish can be repainted later. Ready-made units stop well short of a tall period ceiling, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
