Bespoke kitchens for homes in Brook Green

We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls and a larder for food and small appliances.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Brook Green, many kitchens still have a chimney breast, which can be built around rather than fought. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before cabinets go against it. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services.

Before fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, message us from the contact page.

Advice

What it costs

A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How big the furniture is
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The internal fittings

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit.

Getting in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

To get a quote, use our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and a written quote follows.

Brook Green homes and bespoke kitchens

About 70% of the homes in the area around Brook Green went up before 1919, and about 9% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Brook Green, 4 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Brook Green. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat close to Kensington Olympia station, it is useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If you live in a period home close to The Parish Church of Saint Mary, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Close to St Paul's Gardens? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Practical tips

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Let us know about parking during the design visit
  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Know your appliance sizes early

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. Keep a note of the paint colours.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. We cannot advise on your lease.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Brook Green

I live in a flat in Brook Green. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Is Brook Green in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Brook Green is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It is useful to choose them before the design is final, and the quote confirms what’s included.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Flats, leases and landlords

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
