Common questions about bespoke kitchens
How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Hurlingham?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Hurlingham?
Yes. We cover all of Hammersmith and Fulham and the rest of London, and Hurlingham is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Do photos help?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you.
Can I have a kitchen island?
Where space allows, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we measure for it at the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.
Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?
Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Hurlingham
Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, planned around what you store. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts awkward space to work. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a layout for a small or awkward room and an island where space allows.
In a period terrace, the front door, hall and any turn into the kitchen limit the size of each piece. Around Hurlingham, a large share of homes were built before 1919, so we measure the route to the kitchen not just the room. Long runs arrive in sections and are joined in place, with the joins placed where they will not show.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Is it time for bespoke kitchens?
People also want a kitchen that is built to last and can be repainted, which appeals if you are staying put. Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up over the years.
Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:
- A painted dresser for the kitchen
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- Tall larder storage
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
If your children go to Sulivan Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.
Before you choose who makes it
- Will the quote be in writing?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
What we do not do
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:
- Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
- Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
What happens on fitting day
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.

Arranging a design visit
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Hurlingham
Homes built before 1919 make up about 55% of the housing in the streets around Hurlingham, with about 26% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Flats in converted or shared houses account for about 24% of households in the neighbourhood around Hurlingham, the 2021 Census shows. Conversions often leave rooms in unusual shapes, with partition walls, boxed-in pipes and chimney breasts in odd places, and the way in often goes up shared stairs. If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before anything is fixed to the walls.
For an older house near St Dionis, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Hurlingham House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
