Bespoke kitchens designed for your room
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Cranbrook
Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. People typically come to us about a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and tall larder storage, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often tall, and a large share of the homes around Cranbrook date from then. That suits tall larder cupboards and wall cabinets taken up to the ceiling. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve
An extension or a knocked-through room is a common starting point. A new layout deserves a kitchen designed for it. The building work itself is for your builder.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- More storage in a small kitchen
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
- A dresser that suits a period house
- A larder for food and small appliances
Close to Valentines Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote

Questions we are often asked
I live near Ilford station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Cranbrook?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Is there room for an island in my kitchen?
If there is enough room, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we measure for it at the design visit. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so neighbours may appreciate a note before fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.
Before we arrive
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
Starting with a design visit
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, get in touch through our contact form.

Bespoke kitchens in Cranbrook: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Cranbrook were built before 1919 (about 66%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Cranbrook include Valentines Mansion (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles north, and Chapel (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in Cranbrook is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the measuring visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.
If you live in a period home close to St Clement's Church, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If you live in a flat close to Ilford station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

- Painting the walls around the kitchen

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Chimney breasts in older houses stand out by different amounts, so the recesses either side are rarely the same, and standard units bought as a pair rarely suit both. Each side can be made to its own size.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
