Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
How we make bespoke kitchens for Heston
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Walls lean, corners are not square and floors slope, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth giving a level line for the worktop you choose. Typical reasons to get in touch are room for everything in the kitchen and a painted dresser for the kitchen, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A good part of the housing around Heston is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Many 1930s houses started with a small kitchen at the back that has since been extended or knocked through. The cabinets are designed for the room as it is today.
Our quotes are written in plain words. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Heston
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Heston?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Southall station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
What happens during the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.
How long will the kitchen take to fit?
It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
How it is made
Plinths and scribe strips
A plinth hides adjustable feet and lets the cabinets sit level. Scribe strips follow the wall.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site after fitting. It’s easy to touch up later.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Heston
Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- The overall size of the piece
- The number of doors and drawers
Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.
Before the design visit
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, then send a quote in writing. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. To book a design visit, use our contact form.
What happens on fitting day
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically straightforward, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. Kitchens arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.
Before we arrive
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Ask for a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, get in touch through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
Bespoke kitchens in Heston: local notes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 44% of the housing in the area around Heston, with about 33% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Heston, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Leonard (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Vicarage of St Leonards Parish Church (Grade II), under half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling may need listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Hounslow are set locally. Depending on your street in Heston, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit.
If you live in a period home close to St Leonard's Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. Close to Inwood Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. If your children go to Westbrook Primary School or a school nearby, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.
