East Village Bespoke Kitchens

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in East Village starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

About our bespoke kitchens in East Village

Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Walls lean, corners are not square and floors slope, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet giving a level line for the worktop you choose. People normally come to us about an island where space allows and cabinets built around the appliances you choose; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many homes around East Village were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are flats with compact kitchens. Cabinets made to the exact widths and height of the room add storage a standard kitchen leaves out. Boxed-in pipes and risers are built around.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in East Village

Do you cover homes near Stratford International station?

Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room.

How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in East Village?

We measure the route in not just the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it’s useful to be around at the end.

What are your kitchens made from?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and we design the cabinets around them. Your quote sets out what’s included.

What bespoke kitchens can’t fix

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Moving water or waste pipes
  • Any work on the gas supply
  • Building work, such as removing walls

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitting day, step by step

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Other trades handle any new sockets or plumbing, ideally before fitting day.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the kitchen.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout.
  3. A quote in writing is sent to you.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home, with plumbing, gas and electrics by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. It is useful to have those trades booked in good time.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Advice

Why bespoke in East Village?

Larders, dressers and tall cupboards are hard to find in standard sizes that suit an older room. We can build them to fit, with the same finish as the cabinets. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often doesn’t get them. Built-in pieces are designed with the right fixings from the start, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, and the quote follows.

Why work with us in East Village

Materials and finishes

Larder and dresser units

We build larders with shelves, drawers and door racks, sized to what you store.

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors and drawer fronts can be flat, framed or panelled and paint them to your choice.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in East Village

Homes built since 2000 make up about 68% of the housing in the neighbourhood around East Village, with about 12% built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of East Village. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Purpose-built flats are home to about 74% of households in the streets around East Village, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

If your children go to Chobham Academy or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. If your home is one of the older houses near St Eleutherius, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The Theatre Royal, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
