How we make bespoke kitchens for Richmond upon Thames

A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. Each dresser is made for its wall, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. People normally come to us about a larder for food and small appliances and a central island in a larger kitchen, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Moving a sink or cooker means moving pipes and cables, which is a job for other trades. Whatever kind of home you have in Richmond upon Thames, we plan the layout with that in mind. Your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register do any moving.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Questions we are often asked

Do you cover homes near Richmond station?

Yes, homes across London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Richmond upon Thames?

Yes, Richmond upon Thames is within the area we cover, which takes in all of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, so the worktop you choose can sit level. It is one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it helps to be around at the end.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours agreed with you.

How fitting day works

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand makes the day easier, including pictures on nearby walls. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. First, you tell us about the kitchen you have and the one you want.
  2. We come to measure up and plan the layout with you.
  3. You get a written quote for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. We don’t arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Getting a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the measuring visit.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Pricing bespoke kitchens in Richmond upon Thames

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Helping us understand the room

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling

To get a quote for bespoke kitchens in Richmond upon Thames, drop us a line using the contact form. Let us know the room and the rough idea, plus any rough sizes. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.

Kitchens in Richmond upon Thames homes

About 44% of the homes in the area around Richmond upon Thames went up before 1919, and about 20% between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. 18 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Richmond upon Thames. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so the rest of London is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Richmond upon Thames fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. How the van gets to your door is planned during the design visit.

For an older house near Holy Trinity Richmond, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as The Trumpeters' House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Richmond upon Thames?

Often the call comes after building work has opened up the space. A new room needs a kitchen planned for its shape and light. The building work itself is for your builder.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:

  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen

For families living near Marshgate Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off.

Before you choose who makes it

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • How parking will work on your street
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
