Richmond Bespoke Kitchens
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Richmond starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- A dresser that suits a period house
- A central island in a larger kitchen
- Extra cupboard space

What it costs
There’s no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking near your home
- The width and height of the space
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Helping us understand the room
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Examples of the look you are after
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- Your postcode and the borough
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room. You receive a written quote after the visit.
Bespoke kitchens in Richmond: what you get
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet giving a level line for the worktop you choose. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a kitchen for a room that isn’t square and a central island in a larger kitchen.
Older homes usually have generous ceiling heights, and a large share of the homes around Richmond date from then. Kitchen cabinets can go higher, with tall larders and top cupboards for occasional things. Cabinets are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, with the finish agreed in your quote.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Richmond
Is Richmond in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes, we work across Richmond upon Thames, Richmond included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.
My home in Richmond is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a written quote.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the kitchen. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Do you supply the worktop and appliances?
The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you have picked. Knowing their sizes early helps, and your quote sets out what’s included.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you, and it is set out in the quote.
From workshop to your room
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturday fitting can be arranged.
- First, you let us know about the room. Say a little about the way you cook.
- The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout, where space allows.
- A written quote is sent to you, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.
How to prepare
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Getting a quote
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Kitchens in Richmond homes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 54% of the housing in the streets around Richmond, with about 17% built between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Richmond is in the Richmond Hill Conservation Area, one of the conservation areas recorded by Historic England. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. More than half of the homes in the area around Richmond (about 54%) were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Older houses often have narrow kitchens at the back, with floors that slope, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site.
If you live in a flat close to Richmond station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live in a period home close to The Vineyard Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top. The wider area includes historic houses like Pembroke Lodge, about 1 mile south. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
