Bespoke kitchens in Ivybridge: what you get

Some kitchens suit a dresser, with cupboards below and open shelves above, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against, scribed to follow it and painted to suit the room. People normally come to us about more storage in a small kitchen and a larder for food and small appliances; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. Around Ivybridge, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the design can make the most of it. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

When you need someone else

Not everything around bespoke kitchens is carpentry, like an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Connecting a gas hob or cooker
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Moving water or waste pipes

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you. How it works.

Kitchens in Ivybridge: local notes

About 42% of the homes in the streets around Ivybridge went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 24% between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Ivybridge include Church of All Hallows (Grade I), about 0.5 miles south-east, and Mogden House (Grade II), under half a mile north-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Hounslow is no exception. Where a street in Ivybridge is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

If your children go to Chase Bridge Primary School or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. If you live near Inwood Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. The wider area includes historic houses like Richmond House, about 1.1 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a written quote for the kitchen cabinets.

  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

Advice

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Ivybridge

Is Ivybridge in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, we work across Hounslow, Ivybridge included, and across the rest of London. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Ivybridge?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Our kitchens are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
