Our fitted wardrobes across W1F
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it, which helps keep mould away. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. Typical reasons to get in touch are clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
- You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Ask for a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes across W1F: local notes
Homes across W1F, Soho, Chinatown and West End included, have bedrooms with every kind of quirk. Each piece is fitted to the room’s own walls and floor. The paint finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.
Homes built before 1919 make up about 49% of the housing in the W1F postcode district, with about 22% built since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 49% of homes in the W1F postcode district were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths. About 77% of households in W1F live in purpose-built flats, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
W1F is part of the area we cover, which takes in all 32 boroughs and the City. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.
Soho: Living in a block of flats near Tottenham Court Road station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Close to St Anne's Churchyard? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Honest limits
We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:
- Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Redecorating around the wardrobes
- Structural changes to the room
Flats, conversions and lettings
We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.
Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Modular interior systems can be rearranged easily, and that flexibility is useful. A bespoke interior is planned around your clothes from the start, and we can include adjustable shelves where you want flexibility.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- How parking will work on your street
Could you do it yourself?
It is worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Looking after your furniture
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that’s barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, which can mark the finish.
Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can. Opening a window now and then helps.
Questions from W1F
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
The inside is planned around your clothes. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included. We talk it through at the design visit.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We cover London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job best. Your quote sets out the materials.
How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. That’s why we measure the route, not just the room. If you’re in a leasehold flat, check your lease before fixing furniture to walls.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We talk through both at the measuring visit.
