Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Adelphi
Is parking a problem for fitting in Adelphi?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
Is Adelphi in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London, and Adelphi is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.
Which worktops and appliances can I have?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. Knowing their sizes early helps, and the quote confirms what’s included.
About our bespoke kitchens in Adelphi
A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken at the measuring visit, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us before anything is made in our workshop. People typically come to us about making the most of a galley kitchen and a larder for food and small appliances; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
An open-plan kitchen in a flat is on show from the sofa, and doors, panels and paint colour are chosen with that in mind. Around Adelphi, most households are in purpose-built flats. End panels and a matching tall unit can tie the kitchen to the living space.
We write quotes in plain English. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Flats, conversions and lettings
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Pricing bespoke kitchens in Adelphi
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- The internal fittings
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- Spray painting or hand painting
- The number of doors and drawers
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We’ll talk through what you need inside at the design visit, then set it out in the quote.
Before the design visit
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it is useful to send:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Examples of the look you are after
- How you want to use the space
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Adelphi
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Adelphi were built before 1919 (about 41%) and since 2000 (about 26%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 38 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Adelphi. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Westminster included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Adelphi. We go through parking and access during the design visit.
For a family home near St Clement Danes CofE Primary School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen. Living in a block of flats near London Charing Cross station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Adelphi is about 1 mile west of City of Westminster, part of the City of Westminster. From period terraces to newer flats in Adelphi, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. In Westminster, Adelphi is one of the places we cover.
We make bespoke kitchens across the W1D, W1F and WC2H postcode area for bespoke kitchens. Our area takes in homes on streets like York Road, Drury Lane and Maiden Lane, whether you want bespoke kitchens or another piece made for the room. The A301 and A400 runs close to Adelphi; on busy main roads, unloading kitchens takes a little planning. Elsewhere in Westminster, we also cover Paddington Green (2 miles west), Paddington (2 miles west), Connaught Village (2 miles west), Belgravia (2 miles south-west), Lisson Grove (2 miles north-west) and Westbourne (3 miles west).
Local landmarks in Adelphi
The streets we cover here include those near The Theodore Bullfrog pub, St Andrew's and St John's Church of England Primary School and London Nautical School. Adelphi has its own railway station: London Charing Cross station. A little further out are Gabriel's Wharf (0.6 miles east) and London Museum and Institute of Natural History (under half a mile north-east). For a walk, there is Ludgate Hill and St. James's Park Lake.
What prompts bespoke kitchens in Adelphi
Some want a kitchen that suits a period house. A painted kitchen with a dresser can feel at home in an older room and look as if they belong.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- A layout for a small or awkward room
If you live near Victoria Embankment Gardens, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.
Choosing a carpenter
- Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
Is bespoke worth it?
A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Ready-made furniture stops at a set height, whatever the ceiling, which wastes the space above. Fitted furniture runs to the ceiling.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

What else we make in Adelphi
How fitting day works
Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Where there is no lift, each section is sized to be carried up the stairs safely. The stair turns and landings set the limit. The pieces are assembled in the flat.
- You let us know about the room and how you use it.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
- We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.
Before fitting day
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
Arranging a design visit
