Soho Bespoke Kitchens

- A kitchen for a room that isn’t square
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
Bespoke kitchens designed for your room
Flats, blocks and rented homes
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.
About our bespoke kitchens in Soho
Islands work well in kitchens with room to walk around them. There needs to be enough clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and in a narrow kitchen an island can make the room harder to use. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts. People normally come to us about a kitchen that fits an uneven room and cabinets for a narrow kitchen; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Wall cabinets need firm fixings, and older internal walls can be lath and plaster rather than brick. Since a large share of homes around Soho are that old, we check each wall before wall cabinets are planned. If a wall cannot take wall cabinets, tall larders or a dresser standing on the floor can do the job.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

Kitchens in Soho: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Soho were built before 1919 (about 49%) and since 2000 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Soho, 30 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Purpose-built flats are home to about 78% of households in the streets around Soho, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. For a flat, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
If you live near St Anne's Churchyard, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.5 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as House of St Barnabas, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.
Soho is within the City of Westminster, about 1 mile west of City of Westminster. We cover Soho as part of our work across Westminster, and the process is the same everywhere we work. We list Soho among 29 places we cover in Westminster.
Postcode districts we cover here for bespoke kitchens: W1F, W1T and W1D. Streets in the area include Duck Lane, Drury Lane and Bridle Lane, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. Main roads around Soho include the A4 and A301. Nearby, we also make bespoke kitchens in West End (1 mile east), Chinatown (1 mile south), Seven Dials (1 mile east), St Giles (1 mile north-east) and St James's (1 mile south). Elsewhere in Westminster, we also cover Paddington Green (2 miles west), Paddington (2 miles west), Connaught Village (2 miles west), Lisson Grove (2 miles north-west), Westbourne (3 miles west) and Little Venice (2 miles west). Soho is among the bigger places we cover in Westminster.
What’s near Soho
Our area takes in the homes around LITE Regal International School, London Library and Bar Soho. Soho has its own railway station: Tottenham Court Road station. Nearby you will also find St James Workhouse (a few minutes’ walk west) and Montfichet's Tower (1.3 miles east). For a walk, there’s St. James's Park Lake and Ludgate Hill.
How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
At the end, we tidy up. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.
- You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
- We visit to measure and go through the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
- A quote in writing follows, with the finish agreed.
- We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
- Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
Before we arrive
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Starting with a design visit
It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

What we don’t do
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- New sockets or circuits
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
- Moving water or waste pipes
If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room. How it works.
What it is made from
- Islands where space allows
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Larders and dressers
What it’s made from
Larder and dresser units
A dresser pairs cupboards below with open shelves above, made to fit its wall.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site after fitting. Chips are simple to touch in.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made units are made to fixed sizes, so the room has to fit the units. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes from wall to wall. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, while fitted furniture can follow the room’s own lines, with panels and details to suit the house.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Soho
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you cover homes near Tottenham Court Road station?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.
