Our fitted wardrobes across W1T

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. Typical reasons to get in touch are musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. We visit to measure the room and discuss the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop.
  5. We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers.

What goes into your quote

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

What you get with us

  • Edges scribed to follow your walls
  • Finished by spray or by hand
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Saturday work by prior arrangement

Starting with a design visit

A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. To send them, get in touch through our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Fitted wardrobes across W1T: local notes

Homes across W1T, Marylebone, St Pancras and Soho among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.

In the W1T postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 46%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. More than a third of the homes in the W1T postcode district (about 46%) were built before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Older bedrooms usually have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use. About 77% of households in the W1T postcode district live in purpose-built flats, the 2021 Census shows. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in W1T, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.

Marylebone: Handel Hendrix House, about 0.3 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Living in a block of flats near Bond Street station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Do you need fitted wardrobes?

A spare room turning into a guest room or a child’s room is another reason. Fitted wardrobes give it proper storage. Adjustable shelves let the inside change over time.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall
  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
  • Too little room for clothes

What it’s made from

Hanging rails

Rails are placed so the top one is within easy reach without a step. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Tall doors need a stable material. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting, for plain or panelled doors alike.

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes are cheaper to buy and easy to take with you. If you’re renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Built-in wardrobes become part of the house, and are planned to suit it.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?

Practical tips

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
  • Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall

With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then to keep them running smoothly. Don’t let shoes or bags sit in the track.

Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly on an external wall. Watch for musty smells or marks on clothes and deal with any damp early.

Honest limits

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster

Questions from W1T

Can fitted wardrobes go either side of the bed?

Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted. We measure the bed and the room during the design visit.

Do you cover W1T?

Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, W1T included.

Where is the furniture made?

Everything is built in our workshop for your room, then brought to your home and fitted. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls so the doors close neatly.

How is the price worked out?

It depends on the size, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
