Need bespoke kitchens in St John's Wood?

Bespoke kitchens in St John's Wood: what you get

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, sized to what you keep in them. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts awkward space to work. If you are living with open shelves with cupboards below and room for everything in the kitchen, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Small kitchens gain the most from tall pull-out larders and corners that are properly used. Around St John's Wood, most households live in purpose-built flats. Your chosen appliances can be built in behind matching doors, with the materials and finish agreed in your quote.

The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in St John's Wood

Is parking a problem for fitting in St John's Wood?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to South Hampstead station?

Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

How long will the kitchen take to fit?

Every kitchen is different. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.

Made-to-measure kitchens in St John's Wood

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around St John's Wood were built before 1919 (about 30%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 270 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of St John's Wood. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and kitchens can be designed to work around them. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If you live on or close to a main road in St John's Wood, let us know at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If you live in a flat close to South Hampstead station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of All Souls, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.

Looking after your furniture

None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:

  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Make sure an island will not crowd the room
  • Let us know about parking at the design visit
  • Wipe up spills promptly

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

It’s useful to know which appliances you want early. Their sizes shape the cabinets, and changing them later can mean changing the units.

What it costs

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Parking and unloading on your street

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

What to send when you contact us

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, message us from the contact page and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in St John's Wood?

A common reason is a room that ready-made units do not fit. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, leaving gaps at the ends and above. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes from the start.

Here’s what bespoke kitchens can help with:

  • Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Nuffield Lodge, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Choosing a carpenter

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

You will not need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Drilling can be heard through the walls and floors of a block, and some buildings set hours for noisy work. Fitting day is planned around any rules your building has. Saturdays can be arranged if your building allows work then.

  1. You tell us about the room and how you use it.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer handle the services. We don’t arrange these trades ourselves.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
