Need bespoke kitchens in City of Westminster?
Could you do it yourself?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
How we make bespoke kitchens for City of Westminster
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, sometimes noticeably over a single run of units. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the worktop you choose can sit level. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a kitchen for a room that isn’t square and open shelves with cupboards below.
Around City of Westminster, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and in a Victorian or Edwardian terrace, the kitchen is often in the narrow rear part of the house. Walls and floors in older houses are rarely true, so cabinets are scribed and levelled on site. The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

Before and after fitting day
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
- Talk to your other trades in good time
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- Make a note of what you use every day
If a hand-painted door gets a chip, it can be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that wipes clean. Keep a note of the paint colours.
Choose your appliances before the design is finalised. We size the spaces around them, and changing them later can mean changing the units.
Do you need bespoke kitchens in City of Westminster?
A common reason is a room that ready-made units don’t fit. Off-the-shelf cabinets come in set widths, and the gaps get filled with panels. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes instead.
We are often asked to help with:
- A kitchen finished in your colours
- A kitchen for a room that isn’t square
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
- Room for everything in the kitchen
If you live in a period home close to St Mark's, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
Choosing a carpenter
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A written quote follows for the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
Arranging a design visit
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

What affects the price in City of Westminster
The price for your room depends on:
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The width and height of the space
In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Before the design visit
Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:
- Your postcode and the borough
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.
Questions from City of Westminster
I live near Bond Street station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Westminster and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
My home in City of Westminster is a period house with walls that aren’t straight. Is that a problem?
Yes, that is normal in older houses: each piece is scribed to the wall and levelled at the base. We also work around skirting boards, picture rails and cornices. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.
How much does a bespoke kitchen cost?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, layout and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we can’t advise on it.
How long will the kitchen take to fit?
It depends on the kitchen. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.
