About our bespoke kitchens in Shadwell
A dresser brings a traditional feel to a kitchen, and in a period house it can look as if it has always been there. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against and finished to match the rest of the kitchen. If your home has a central island in a larger kitchen and spaces sized for your oven and fridge, that’s what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
Most households around Shadwell live in purpose-built flats, and in a flat, the kitchen is often small or open to the living space. A bespoke kitchen can use the full width and height of the walls. Everything is built in sections that fit the route into the flat.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

From workshop to your room
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Many blocks have entry systems, concierge desks or rules on booking the lift, so it’s worth checking with the managing agent ahead of time. Floors in the flat and the common parts are protected while the furniture comes in.
- You tell us about the room and how you use it.
- We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.
Before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Is bespoke worth it?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Standard furniture does not allow for boxed-in pipes, risers or meter cupboards, leaving gaps or blocking access. Fitted furniture is built around them.
There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
Why us?
- Over 300 projects completed
- Edges scribed to follow your walls

Before and after fitting day
People planning bespoke kitchens often ask about these. They help whatever the room:
- Make sure an island will not crowd the room
- Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
- Choose your appliances before the design is final
- Wipe up spills promptly
The appliances you have chosen come with their own care instructions, and the worktop you chose will have its own care advice too.
Line up your other trades in good time. Their work and ours need to fit together, so it helps if everyone knows the plan.
Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Shadwell
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Shadwell?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
I live in a flat in Shadwell. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the kitchen. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you can plan your other trades around it.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
