Bespoke kitchens in Whitechapel: what you get
Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, planned around what you store. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. Most enquiries start with a kitchen for a room that isn’t square and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Kitchens in newer homes often face onto a balcony door or a large window, so storage has to be planned around the glass. Since many homes around Whitechapel date from 2000 onwards, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the kitchen we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you contact us.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
What it is made from
Plinths and scribe strips
These details are what make a kitchen look built for an older room.
Doors and drawer fronts
Doors and drawer fronts can be flat, framed or panelled and paint them to your choice.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made cabinets often have chipboard carcasses. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can be repainted later. Ready-made units fixed to stud walls are often held by fixings that don’t suit the board. Fitted furniture is planned with fixings into the studs or made for the board.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Whitechapel
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Whitechapel station?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can drop us a line using the contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Whitechapel?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London, and Whitechapel is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
Will you connect the sink and appliances?
No, those are jobs for other trades. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician, and we fit the cabinets.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and a written quote follows.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Whitechapel homes and bespoke kitchens
About 39% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Whitechapel went up since 2000, and about 19% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The Whitechapel High Street Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Whitechapel. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Whitechapel. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
For an older house near St Mary Matfelon, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Mansion House, about 0.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If you live in a flat close to Whitechapel station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Whitechapel is within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. From period terraces to newer flats in Whitechapel, the furniture is designed around the room as we find it. Our Tower Hamlets coverage includes Whitechapel, along with the rest of the borough.
Every home in E1, E2 and E1W is covered for bespoke kitchens, from the main roads to the quieter streets. We cover homes on streets like New Road, Mark Lane and Idol Lane, whether you want bespoke kitchens or another piece made for the room. Main roads around Whitechapel include the A3 and A10. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the measuring visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. If you’re just outside Whitechapel, we also cover Spitalfields (1 mile west), Aldgate (1 mile south-west), Bishopsgate (1 mile west), East End of London (1 mile east) and St George in the East (1 mile south-east). Elsewhere in Tower Hamlets, we also cover Mile End (2 miles east), Bow Common (2 miles east), Bromley (2 miles east), Limehouse (2 miles east), Old Ford (2 miles north-east) and Poplar (2 miles east). Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it’s useful to let us know at the design visit. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled and fixed. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
- At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
- A quote in writing follows, with the finish agreed.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
- Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Tips worth knowing
A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Tell us about parking at the measuring visit
- Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
- Pick the oven, fridge and dishwasher first
- Wipe up spills promptly
Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time is not good for any finish. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.
Think about how the cabinets will get in. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about any narrow spots.
