About bespoke kitchens in Tower Hamlets
Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets and a central island in a larger kitchen.
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- It starts with a short note from you about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
- We send a written quote.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
- The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.
How our quotes work
Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.
Why choose Bespoke Carpentry

Starting with a design visit
A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Bespoke kitchens across Tower Hamlets: local notes
Across Tower Hamlets, including Whitechapel, Spitalfields and Tower Hill, kitchens come in every shape. Cabinets are made for the room you have, built around your chosen worktop, sink and appliances.
In Tower Hamlets, the largest groups of homes date from the years since 2000 (about 45%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 20%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. More than a third of the homes in Tower Hamlets (about 45%) were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Kitchens in homes built since 2000 are often open-plan, with stud walls, so wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board. Purpose-built flats are home to about 81% of households in Tower Hamlets, based on Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so we look at both at the measuring visit.
Whitechapel: For a flat near Whitechapel station, the route in is measured along with the room itself, and the sections are sized to fit it. For a family home near Canon Barnett Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made units are made to fixed sizes, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes, so the runs can fill the space properly.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
The problems bespoke kitchens solve
In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Cabinets end up with gaps or tilted lines, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- More storage in a small kitchen
- Cabinets for a narrow kitchen
What we don’t do
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Plumbing, which is for your plumber
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or tricky room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
Before and after fitting day
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Make sure an island will not crowd the room
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Make a note of what you use every day
- Think about how the cabinets will get in
Wipe up spills and splashes promptly, particularly near the sink. Even moisture-resistant materials last better when kept dry.
Talk to your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer early. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, so it helps if everyone knows the plan.
FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Tower Hamlets
Do I need to be in when you fit?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
What are your kitchens made from?
Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours you choose.
Do you cover Tower Hamlets?
Yes. Our area is the whole of London: every borough and the City of London, Tower Hamlets included.
Do you supply the worktop and appliances?
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Do you work outside London?
No. We only take on work in London.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. Plastering and decorating are not part of our work. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
