Fitted cupboards in Little Portugal

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

How we make fitted cupboards for Little Portugal

A fitted cupboard is built for one space and nowhere else. It runs from the floor to the ceiling, or to whatever height suits the spot, and it follows the walls rather than leaving gaps around them. Hallways, landings, utility rooms, boot rooms and alcoves all make good homes for one, with the inside planned around what you want to store. If your home has a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear and cupboards for a utility or boot room, that is what fitted cupboards are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Most homes around Little Portugal are purpose-built flats, from mansion blocks to newer blocks. Older mansion block flats can have bays, long corridors and tall ceilings with space to use, while modern flats often have short halls and service boxing to work around. In a maisonette, the space under the internal stairs is worth using.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Common questions about fitted cupboards

Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in Little Portugal?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London, and Little Portugal is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wandsworth Road station?

Yes. We cover all of Lambeth and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

We plan the route in during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.

How long does fitting take?

The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?

Yes. A cupboard can tidy them away without getting in the way of access. We don’t move meters or fuse boards; that is for your supplier or an electrician.

What are the cupboards made of?

Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.

How it’s made

Doors and drawer fronts

In a narrow hallway, the way doors open matters, so the doors clear the walls and stairs.

Spray-painted finish

We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish. You choose the colour.

What happens on fitting day

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some buildings have a concierge, a lift booking system or set working hours, so check them with the managing agent before fitting day. Communal areas and floors are protected on the way in.

  1. You contact us about fitted cupboards.
  2. We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways. It helps to tell us about parking then, as a van typically needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are

What it costs

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Parking near your home
  • How many doors and drawers there are

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

What to send when you contact us

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough sizes. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Where other trades come in

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Building work or structural changes
  • Moving or servicing a boiler
  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)

Not sure whether your space suits fitted cupboards? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. For a flat near Wandsworth Road station, fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
