Fitted cupboards in Manor Park
In many London hallways, space is tight, so a cupboard has to earn its place. We can make a shallow cupboard for coats, shoes and bags that still leaves room to pass, fitted out with a rail, hooks or shelves. A bench with a lift-up lid or drawers under it is another option, so there is somewhere to sit by the door. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are space for laundry, cleaning things and boots and floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat.
A large share of the homes around Manor Park were built before 1919, and older houses have plenty of odd corners: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. That’s where fitted storage comes in.
If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Common questions about fitted cupboards
Is parking a problem for fitting in Manor Park?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit.
I live near Manor Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.
What if the stairs or lift are small?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Can you box in my boiler with a fitted cupboard?
Yes, as long as the design respects the boiler’s instructions. We allow for the clearances and ventilation it needs and make sure an engineer can reach it.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A flat-pack or ready-made cupboard is quick to buy and often cheaper, and in a square room they can work well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely sit flush. A fitted cupboard costs more but follows the room. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Fitted cupboards in Manor Park: local notes
About 58% of the homes in the area around Manor Park went up before 1919, and about 15% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Manor Park, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade I), less than half a mile south-east, and Public Library (Grade II), under half a mile north-west. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character can need listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 38% of households in the streets around Manor Park live in terraced houses, according to Census 2021. London terraces tend to have narrow hallways and odd recesses that fitted cupboards can use.
If you live in a period home close to St Mary's Church, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves. Close to Loxford Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
