Fitted Cupboards in Plashet
Thinking about fitted cupboards in Plashet? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a written quote, before anything is made.
- Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
- Floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat
- Cupboards that suit a period house
Fitted cupboards designed for your room
How we price fitted cupboards
The price for your room depends on:
- How square the room is
- Parking and unloading on your street
- The number of doors and drawers
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Helping us understand the room
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll normally ask about:
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.
Fitted cupboards for homes in Plashet
The carcasses and doors are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, depending on what each part needs to do. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits shelves and drawer boxes. We finish them by spray painting in the workshop or by hand painting, in a colour agreed with you. If you are living with somewhere for coats, shoes and bags and cupboards that suit a period house, that’s what fitted cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
A solid brick outside wall in an older house can be cold and sometimes damp, so storage against it is designed with ventilation behind. A large share of the homes around Plashet date from then. Damp should be sorted before anything is fitted against the wall.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the fitted cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Tips worth knowing
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Keep boiler vents and meter access clear
- Measure the route into the room not just the room
- Let us know about meters and boilers in the space
- Give the paint time to cure fully
Once the cupboards are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. At first, go easy on the doors and shelves and avoid heavy cleaning. In time, a damp cloth and a little mild soap keeps them clean.
Before the design visit, think about what will go in each cupboard. Coats, shoes, cleaning things and bedding all need different depths and fittings, and knowing this early saves changes later.

Why bespoke in Plashet?
You can put together a flat-pack cupboard yourself, and that’s a real advantage. A fitted cupboard needs a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Ready-made pieces are proportioned for newer homes and can look lost in an older one, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Why us?
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
- 300+ projects completed
- Finished by spray or by hand
- Saturday visits and fitting by prior arrangement

Could you do it yourself?
Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
What happens on fitting day
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.
- We start with the space and what you want to store.
- At the design visit we measure up and look at the walls, floor and ceiling. Doors, shelves and rails are agreed then too.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
- The cupboards are made and finished in our workshop.
- Fitting day: the cupboards are fitted and trimmed to the room.
Before fitting day
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
Getting a quote
If you know what you want, say so; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

Fitted storage in Plashet
About 71% of the homes in the streets around Plashet went up before 1919, and about 13% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Plashet include Passmore Edwards Library (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and East Ham Underground Station (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent from the council, for example removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. Around Plashet, about 71% of homes date from before 1919, well above the figure for Newham as a whole, about 37%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of fitted cupboards.

Common questions about fitted cupboards
Is parking a problem for fitting in Plashet?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Woodgrange Park station?
Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Will a fitted cupboard work on a sloping floor?
Yes. We scribe each cupboard to follow the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth. That’s one of the main reasons to choose fitted cupboards in an older house.
Can I send photos before the visit?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?
Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly without getting in the way of access. We don’t move meters or fuse boards, as that’s a job for your supplier or electrician.
