Fitted cupboards in Paddington
Boxing in a boiler is a job that needs care. The boiler maker’s instructions set out the clearances and ventilation it needs, and we design the cupboard to keep to them. We make sure the doors open fully so the boiler can be serviced, while any work on the boiler is for a Gas Safe engineer. We make fitted cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about making use of an awkward alcove or corner and floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat.
Where original shutters, doors or panelling survive, they’re worth designing around. With a large share of the homes around Paddington built before 1919, new storage can be made to sit beside them rather than replace them. Door styles can be chosen to suit the age of the house. For a listed home, fixing into original joinery can need consent, so check first.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Your questions about fitted cupboards in Paddington
Do you cover homes near London Paddington station?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
I live in a flat in Paddington. How will the furniture get up the stairs?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
What are the cupboards made of?
Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. If there is damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
How much does a fitted cupboard cost?
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The size, the inside layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. You can send them when you tell us about the room on our contact form.
How it’s made
Moisture-resistant MDF
For painted doors and panels, moisture-resistant MDF is our usual choice, because it’s stable and smooth.
Birch plywood
For heavily loaded cupboards, birch plywood makes a sturdy carcass, like those in a utility room.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot give advice on leases.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.
Fitted cupboards for homes in Paddington
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Paddington were built before 1919 (about 47%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 17%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for fitted cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Paddington is in the Bayswater Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. About 73% of households in the neighbourhood around Paddington live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. For a flat, fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
Winfield House, about 1 mile north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way. For an older house near Church of St John the Evangelist, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. For families living near International Community School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit.
Paddington is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, part of the City of Westminster. We design and make fitted cupboards for homes in Paddington, as part of our work in every London borough. We cover places right across Westminster, large and small.
Design visits and fitting in W2, W1H and W1U work the same way as everywhere else we cover. If your home is on a street like Harrow Road, Craven Road and Harbet Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted cupboards. Main roads around Paddington include the A5 and A40, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. We also cover the places around Paddington: Paddington Green (1 mile north-west), Hyde Park Estate (1 mile south-east), Connaught Village (1 mile south-east), Tyburn (1 mile south-east) and Little Venice (1 mile north-west). We also make fitted cupboards in nearby places like Soho (2 miles east), Chinatown (2 miles east), St James's (2 miles east), Covent Garden (2 miles east), Aldwych (2 miles east) and Charing Cross (2 miles east).

Paddington has its own railway station: London Paddington station. Not far away are Greville Place nature reserve and The Long Water.
How fitting day works
You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, especially in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the measuring visit what’s outside. The van is unloaded quickly, with the sections carried straight in. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.
- You let us know where the cupboards should go and what they need to hold.
- We visit to measure and check how level the floor and walls are.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build the cupboards in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the cupboards are fitted and trimmed to the room.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Make sure pets are kept safely away

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

What affects the cost of fitted cupboards
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- Parking near your home
- How square the room is
- The width and height of the space
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
What to send when you get in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Rough sizes: width, height and depth
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
