Your questions about fitted cupboards in Charing Cross
Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Charing Cross?
Yes, Charing Cross is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Westminster and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Do you cover homes near London Charing Cross station?
Yes. We cover all of Westminster and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Can you build a cupboard over the fuse board and meters?
Yes. We can build a cupboard that hides them neatly without getting in the way of access. Moving them isn’t our work, as that’s a job for your supplier or electrician.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What happens during the design visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Fitted cupboards in Charing Cross
Our fitted cupboards are made for homes in Charing Cross and all over London. It starts with a design visit, where we measure and talk through what you need, followed by a written quote. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you’ll know before we start. Most enquiries start with storage in a corner nothing else fits and cupboards for a utility or boot room; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Around Charing Cross, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and older houses have plenty of odd corners: under the stairs, in the bay, along the hall and under the eaves of a converted loft. Fitted storage is designed to make those spaces useful.
The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the fitted cupboard we have designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

How fitting day works
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking on terraced streets can be tight, particularly in a controlled parking zone, so it helps to tell us at the design visit what’s outside. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by arrangement.
- You get in touch and tell us whether the cupboard will house a boiler, meters or a fuse board.
- At the design visit we measure up and note the clearances and ventilation the boiler manufacturer asks for. Boiler work itself is for a Gas Safe registered engineer.
- You receive a quote in writing for the cupboards.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with the access planned in.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote starts with a few details: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Is bespoke worth it?
Ready-made cupboards are usually made from chipboard with a printed or plastic finish. Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can match the room. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Built-in pieces can run to the cornice or the picture rail.
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, which we write after seeing the room.

Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
When you need someone else
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Building work or structural changes
- Electrical work inside the cupboard
- Work on a boiler, which is for a Gas Safe registered engineer
Not sure whether your space suits fitted cupboards? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you. How it works.
What it’s made from
- Spray-painted finish
- Ventilated doors
- Hand-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Birch plywood
- Adjustable shelves
Before and after fitting day
None of this takes much effort. Here’s what we suggest:
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Think about what each cupboard will hold
- Leave room in front of the meters
Keep the way to the meters and fuse board clear. Avoid packing things in front of the meters, so they can be reached without a struggle.
At the design visit, let us know how parking and access work. Many London streets are in controlled parking zones and some blocks need lifts or deliveries booked ahead.
