TV and media units designed for your room
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it’s quick to buy.
TV and media units in Paddington
Where the TV will be wall-mounted, the unit is designed around where the bracket goes and the cable route behind it. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit. Typical reasons to get in touch are a tangle of wires behind the TV and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Ceilings in homes built before 1919 are often taller than in later houses, and a large share of the homes around Paddington date from then. That gives full-height TV and media units room to reach the picture rail or the cornice, with the top line set to match the room’s own mouldings. Where a fireplace has been blocked up, the chimney still needs ventilating, and any damp is sorted before units go in.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What happens on fitting day
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Any decorating around the new pieces is for your decorator.
- You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish.
- The unit is made at our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear.
Preparing the room
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Living-room carpentry in Paddington: local notes
About 47% of the homes in the streets around Paddington went up before 1919, and about 17% between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. 13 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Paddington. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Controlled parking zones cover much of inner London, and each borough runs its own. A van working in Paddington will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Winfield House, about 1 mile north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. Living in a block of flats near London Paddington station? Then each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. Near listed buildings like Catholic Apostolic Church and Church House, about 0.5 miles north-west of the centre of Paddington, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.
Paddington is about 1 mile east of City of Westminster, in the City of Westminster. Wherever you are in Paddington, it works the same way: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture built in our workshop and fitting in your home. In Westminster, Paddington is one of the places we cover.
Design visits and fitting in W2, W1H and W1U work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We cover homes on streets like Harrow Road, Craven Road and Harbet Road, whether you want TV and media units or another piece made for the room. Main roads around Paddington include the A5 and A40. If your home is on one of them, tell us at the design visit, as some main roads have strict stopping rules. We also cover Paddington Green (1 mile north-west), Hyde Park Estate (1 mile south-east), Connaught Village (1 mile south-east), Tyburn (1 mile south-east) and Little Venice (1 mile north-west). Elsewhere in Westminster, we also cover Soho (2 miles east), Chinatown (2 miles east), St James's (2 miles east), Covent Garden (2 miles east), Aldwych (2 miles east) and Charing Cross (2 miles east).

Our area takes in the homes around Royal Society of Medicine Library, Hampden Gurney CofE Primary School and Fountains Abbey pub, among other places. There’s a railway station in Paddington itself: London Paddington station. Other landmarks nearby include Maida Vale Hospital for Nervous Diseases (0.7 miles north-west) and London Toy & Model Museum (0.5 miles south-west). Not far away are Greville Place nature reserve and The Long Water.
Looking after your furniture
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Let us know about parking and access at the measuring visit
- List every box, console and speaker that needs a home
- Decide where you’ll sit, so the screen height suits it
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
Vents and equipment shelves gather dust, so clean them now and then. It keeps air moving.
Label cables when you set things up.
Why bespoke in Paddington?
Bespoke furniture takes longer than buying from a shop: it needs a design visit, a quote and workshop time. For a short stay, a standalone stand can make more sense. Tall ceilings in older homes leave a band of empty wall above standard furniture, and that space collects dust instead of storage. Fitted furniture can go all the way up.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.

Your questions about TV and media units in Paddington
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Paddington?
It can be, as controlled parking zones cover much of inner London. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
How do you fit TV and media units in a flat in Paddington?
At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you plan for a future TV?
We can size the opening for the screen you might buy next. Tell us the size you have in mind so the space and cable routes suit it.
How do you hide the TV cables?
That’s the aim, and it’s planned from the start. Access panels make future changes easy. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.
Is there room for a soundbar?
We plan open spaces for speakers and soundbars. Closed doors muffle sound, so we leave them open.
Can you build a TV unit for a wall-mounted TV?
The unit can be planned either way. For a wall-mounted TV, the layout works around the bracket position, and if it stands on the unit we size the top for it.
Materials and finishes
Shelves
Long shelves need the right thickness or a support so they stay straight.
Birch plywood
A wide shelf under the TV needs stiffness. Birch plywood helps.
