Tips worth knowing
Most of what helps is simple. What we’d suggest:
- Make a note of what needs a home
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Do not store things against the boiler
- Check stairs, landings and doorways for access
If a hand-painted door gets a knock, it can typically be touched in. A spray finish gives a smooth, even surface that cleans easily with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colour for later.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease first. We can’t advise on your lease, and it is best done early.
Fitted cupboards for homes in Bloomsbury
Walls in period homes are rarely flat or square, and floors and ceilings can be out of level too. Every cupboard is scribed, trimmed by hand to meet the wall, then set level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Skirting boards, picture rails and coving are cut around or met neatly, so the cupboard looks as if it has always been there. We make fitted cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about storage for towels and bedding and a neat cupboard around the boiler.
One flat can have concrete, block and plasterboard walls side by side. Since most households around Bloomsbury live in purpose-built flats, we check each wall at the measuring visit before choosing fixings. Storage on a lightweight wall stands on the floor and is fixed back for stability.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we’ve agreed. It sets out the fitted cupboard designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

How fitting day works
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Parking near blocks of flats can be limited, and loading may need planning, so details of bays, permits or a loading area help. Once inside, the sections are joined and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Saturdays can be arranged.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- We visit to measure up and talk through the design.
- A quote in writing follows.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a little extra left on edges that meet the walls.
- We fit the cupboards and trim the edges to follow the walls and ceiling.
- The spray-painted or hand-painted finish completes the job, and new paintwork should be treated gently while it cures.
Before fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Fitted cupboards in Bloomsbury: local notes
About 44% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Bloomsbury went up before 1919, and about 21% since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Bloomsbury, 24 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. Where a home in Bloomsbury is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Living in a block of flats near London Euston station? Then fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If your home is one of the older houses near St George the Martyr Holborn, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves. If your children go to UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies or a school nearby, fitted cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Bloomsbury
Is Bloomsbury in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?
Yes, we work across Camden, Bloomsbury included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details.
Do you cover homes near London Euston station?
Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
How are fitted cupboards priced?
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Should I send pictures?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you contact us.
What affects the price in Bloomsbury
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
Helping us understand the room
To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:
- Examples of the look you’re after
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Where you live, with the postcode
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a written quote. To book one, message us from the contact page.
Why bespoke in Bloomsbury?
If you are likely to move soon and want to take the furniture with you, standalone cupboards may suit you better. Fitted storage is built in for good and is designed for this home. How long you will stay is worth weighing up. Whether the ceilings are tall or low, standard heights rarely match them, so storage is lost at the top. Fitted furniture runs to the ceiling.
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
