Fitted wardrobes in St Pancras
What it’s made from
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. It’s easy to touch up later.
Plinths and scribe strips
The plinth lifts the wardrobe and hides an uneven floor. Its height can be set to match the skirting.
Fitted wardrobes in St Pancras: what you get
Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Most enquiries start with wardrobes that are full to bursting and storage boxes stacked under the bed, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Spare rooms in flats usually have more than one job, so fitted furniture that keeps things out of sight helps it switch between them. Purpose-built flats are home to most households around St Pancras. Doors and drawers are planned to open fully in the space you have.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
Looking after your furniture
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
- Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
- Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
New paintwork is dry to the touch long before it has fully cured. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and avoid knocking hangers against the inside.
Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly where the wardrobe meets an outside wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and deal with any damp early.
What we do not do
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
- Building work to create a loft room
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a block of flats, the stairs, landings, lift and doors matter as much as the room: fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for each of them. Some older blocks have small lifts or none.
- You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
- We build the wardrobes in our workshop, in sections sized to get into your home.
- Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.
Before we arrive
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Empty the space we’ll be working in
Starting with a design visit
To make a start, fill in our short enquiry form and tell us a little about the room. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.
Advice
Fitted bedroom furniture in St Pancras
Homes built before 1919 make up about 41% of the housing in the area around St Pancras, with about 19% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Within a mile of the centre of St Pancras, 13 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. Purpose-built flats are more common around St Pancras than across Camden: about 75% of households, against about 56%, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.
For a family home near St George the Martyr Church of England Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Pancras, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live near Lincoln's Inn Fields, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in St Pancras
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in St Pancras?
It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
Do you do plastering or decorating?
No. Our work is the furniture, not the walls. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?
It is worked out with you when we measure, based on what you wear and how much of it there is. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.
