About our fitted cupboards in Wembley

Few walls in an older house are truly straight, and floors and ceilings can be out of level too. Every cupboard is scribed, trimmed by hand to meet the wall, then set level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We work around skirting, coving and picture rails, so the cupboard sits comfortably in the room. If you’re living with storage for coats and shoes in the hallway and built-in storage that matches the woodwork, fitted cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

A large number of homes around Wembley date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Boilers, cylinders and consumer units often sit in a hall cupboard, and any new storage keeps their access and ventilation. Shallow cupboards suit narrow halls.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Fitting day, step by step

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer homes often have stud walls, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are covered while we work.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space.
  2. At the design visit we plan the cupboards and check how the sections will get in.
  3. Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level.

How to prepare

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Keep pets out of the room and the hallway

Starting with a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you don’t, that is fine, and we can work it out together. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Questions from Wembley

Can you fit furniture in a home close to North Wembley station?

Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Wembley?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Can you hide my gas and electricity meters?

Yes, and we keep them easy to reach. Engineers and meter readers will need access, so the doors or panels are planned to open easily.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.

Should I send photos?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It’s useful to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Honest limits

We’re carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It is useful to know these before you plan the job:

  • Plastering, decorating or repairs to the walls
  • Any gas work around the boiler
  • Relocating meters or the fuse board

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Adjustable shelves
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Ventilated doors

How it’s made

Birch plywood

For heavily loaded cupboards, birch plywood makes a sturdy carcass, like those in a utility room.

Hand-painted finish

If you’d like the cupboards painted to match a wall or the woodwork, hand painting on site works well and is easy to refresh later.

Fitted storage in Wembley

About 53% of the homes in the streets around Wembley went up since 2000, and about 30% between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Wembley, Historic England’s list includes Wembley Hill Lodge (Grade II), less than half a mile south-east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If you live on or close to a main road in Wembley, let us know during the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

For families living near Wembley Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If you live in a period home close to St Augustine, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. Close to Preston Park? Fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Pricing fitted cupboards in Wembley

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The width and height of the space

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

Helping us understand the room

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it is useful to send:

  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
