Fitted cupboards in Kenton
Landings often have a corner or a stretch of wall that does nothing. A fitted cupboard there can hold towels, bedding and the things that never quite find a home, with shelves spaced to suit what goes on them. The doors are planned so they open cleanly on a narrow landing. If you’re living with tall cupboards where space is short and tidying away the gas and electricity meters, fitted cupboards made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Kenton, loft conversions are common, and they leave low eaves and sloping ceilings. Fitted storage can make use of the eaves, the bay or the hall. For lofts, we work in spaces that are already converted or boarded.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the fitted cupboard we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Could you do it yourself?
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.
Fitting day, step by step
With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the cupboards and the room, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- You get in touch and tell us whether the cupboard will house a boiler, meters or a fuse board.
- At the design visit we measure up and note the clearances and ventilation the boiler manufacturer asks for. Boiler work itself is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.
- You receive a written quote for the cupboards.
- We make the cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with vents and access panels where they’re needed.
- We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before we arrive
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Starting with a design visit
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Advice
Fitted cupboards in Kenton: local notes
In the area around Kenton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 84%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 7%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Kenton, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Mary and Parish Hall (Grade II*), under half a mile west, and Kenton Library (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Kenton is covered by it. Access and parking are talked through at the measuring visit.
Living in a block of flats near Kenton station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Headstone Manor, about 2.2 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size.
Kenton is about 6 miles south-east of Kilburn, within the London Borough of Brent. We design and make fitted cupboards for homes in Kenton and the rest of Brent. Kenton is one of the places in Brent where we make fitted cupboards, and the borough has 29 places on our list.
In HA3, HA7 and HA1, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Our area takes in homes on streets like Retreat Close, Kenton Road and Woodgrange Avenue, along with the roads around them, for fitted cupboards and any of our other fitted furniture. Nearby, we also make fitted cupboards in South Kenton (1 mile south), Northwick Park (1 mile south-west), Greenhill (1 mile west), Wealdstone (1 mile north-west) and Harrow on the Hill (2 miles south-west). Across the rest of Brent, our area takes in Kilburn (6 miles south-east), Neasden (3 miles south-east), Harlesden (4 miles south-east), Wembley (2 miles south), Queen's Park (6 miles south-east) and Church End (4 miles south-east).

Flats, blocks and rented homes
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Practical tips
Looking after painted furniture is simple. These habits help most:
- Do not store things against the boiler
- Go easy on new doors for a while
- Look at your lease before fixing to the walls
- Deal with any damp walls first
A boiler cupboard should be left as it was designed, with nothing stored against the boiler or over its vents. When the boiler is serviced, the engineer can open the doors fully to get to it.
It is useful to list what you want to store before we measure. Coats, shoes, cleaning things and bedding all need different depths and fittings, and knowing this early saves changes later.

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Kenton
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Kenton station?
Yes, homes across Brent and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.
Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in Kenton?
Yes, we work across Brent, Kenton included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Do I get to choose the colour?
You choose it. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you’ve chosen.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Do you need fitted cupboards in Kenton?
Alcoves and odd corners are another reason. We often build into recesses, corridor ends and corners that standard furniture cannot use, and make them useful.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- A boiler cupboard that keeps access clear
- Hiding meters and a fuse board neatly
- A cupboard for a recess or odd corner
- A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
Close to Preston Park? Living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place.
What to check before you book
- How they handle walls that are not straight
- Whether you’ll get a quote in writing, not just a figure
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
