Fitted cupboards for your home in Wealdstone

Fitted cupboards in Wealdstone: what you get

A utility or boot room has to work hard, every day. We can build tall cupboards for the vacuum, ironing board and mop, alongside spaces for the washing machine and dryer you choose. Your plumber connects the appliances and your electrician handles any sockets, and we leave room for their work in the design. If your home has making use of an awkward alcove or corner and cupboards that sit well with skirting and coving, that’s what fitted cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

A good part of the housing around Wealdstone is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standalone furniture moves with you; fitted cupboards stay with the house. A fitted cupboard is part of the room and is designed for this home. How long you’ll stay is worth weighing up. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

From workshop to your room

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You get in touch and let us know where the cupboards should go.

Advice

Could you do it yourself?

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.

How it is made

Doors and drawer fronts

Doors can be flat, framed or panelled, painted to match the cupboard. Drawers below the doors suit shoes and small items.

Plinths and scribe strips

We trim the edge of each cupboard to follow the wall for a close fit.

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Wealdstone

Is Wealdstone in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London, and Wealdstone is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Wealdstone?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you have chosen.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations. Check your lease, as we cannot advise on it.

Storage in Wealdstone homes: local notes

About 37% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Wealdstone went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 29% before 1919, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Wealdstone, Historic England’s list includes Magistrates Court (Grade II), under half a mile south, and Church of St Joseph (catholic) (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Harrow sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Wealdstone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.

If your children go to Marlborough Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. Headstone Manor, about 0.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves. For an older house near Holy Trinity Church, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.
