St Giles Fitted Wardrobes

Fitted wardrobes in St Giles: floor-to-ceiling wardrobes built to the shape of your bedroom. Each piece is designed at a visit to your home, made in our workshop and fitted by us.

  • Not enough hanging space
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
  • Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall

About our fitted wardrobes in St Giles

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that is hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. Typical reasons to get in touch are mismatched bedroom furniture and storage boxes stacked under the bed; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around St Giles, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the fitted wardrobe designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

What it costs

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:

  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so it can be planned.

Helping us understand the room

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It’s enough to send:

  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Examples of the look you are after

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

My home in St Giles is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in St Giles?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

How do I get started?

Simply message us from the contact page. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Can I choose the layout inside the wardrobe?

You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. It can include long and double hanging, shelves, drawers and space for shoes. We talk it through at the design visit.

How long will the fitting take?

It depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop before we come to fit them.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough measurements. To send them, use our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

What it’s made from

Plinths and scribe strips

Most fitted wardrobes in older homes need scribing at the sides and top. It’s what makes the wardrobe look built in.

Hanging rails

Rails are placed so the top one is within easy reach. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.

Fitted bedroom furniture in St Giles

The biggest shares of homes in the area around St Giles were built before 1919 (about 49%) and since 2000 (about 21%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. St Giles is partly covered by the Seven Dials (Covent Garden) Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of inner London. So a van fitting furniture in St Giles normally needs a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay arranged through the council. Tell us what parking is near you at the design visit.

For a flat near Tottenham Court Road station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. Close to St Anne's Churchyard? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Benjamin Franklin House, about 0.5 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

How fitting day works

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the measuring visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the bedroom, and we arrange a design visit.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. We send a written quote for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

How to prepare

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

Ask for a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, tell us about the room on our contact form.
