Fitted wardrobes in Holborn
Fitted wardrobes in Holborn: what you get
Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. Typical reasons to get in touch are wardrobes that are full to bursting and empty alcoves in the bedroom, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
In a flat, a spare bedroom often doubles as a study or a guest room, and closed storage lets the room change role without clutter. Around Holborn, most households live in purpose-built flats. We plan the space in front so every door and drawer opens fully.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Holborn homes and fitted wardrobes
In the area around Holborn, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 44%) and the years since 2000 (about 20%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 533 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Holborn. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and fitted wardrobes can be designed to work around them. About 73% of households in the streets around Holborn live in purpose-built flats, based on Census 2021. For a flat, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, the lift and the doors. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Alban's Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Living in a block of flats near Farringdon station? Then it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. For families living near St Alban's Church of England Primary School, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
Holborn is within the London Borough of Camden, about 1 mile north-west of St Pancras. Design visits and fitting in Holborn can be on a Saturday, by arrangement. Across Camden, we cover Holborn.

What affects the price in Holborn
The price for your room depends on:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The number of doors and drawers
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How square the room is
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Helping us understand the room
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Flats, conversions and lettings
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit, and we will plan the fitting around them.
Questions from Holborn
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Holborn?
Yes. We cover all of Camden and the rest of London, and Holborn is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.
What if my bedroom floor is not level?
Floors in older houses are often out of level. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet.
Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes, as long as it is ventilated. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe, which helps avoid condensation.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Loading near a block of flats can take some planning, so let us know about bays, permits or any loading area at the measuring visit. The sections are assembled in the flat and fixed to suit the walls. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, so these points are worth knowing:
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
- Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
