Looking after your furniture
Getting the most from fitted wardrobes starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:
- Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
- Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
- Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then so the doors run smoothly. Don’t let shoes or bags sit in the track.
Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut. A little ventilation in the room helps.
Fitted wardrobes in Bethnal Green
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. Others work around a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. If your home has gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, fitted wardrobes made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.
Most households around Bethnal Green live in purpose-built flats, so bedroom space is often tight and every wall counts. Taking fitted furniture up to the ceiling adds storage without using more floor. Each piece is made in sections sized for the stairs, lift and doors, and assembled once it’s inside.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Fitting day, step by step
In older rooms, the furniture usually has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it sits neatly against the room. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. With little room to spare in a flat, pieces come in as they’re needed. Floors are covered and dust is kept down. Fixings are chosen for each wall, solid or plasterboard.
- You get in touch with a few details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van typically needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.
Preparing the room
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
Starting with a design visit
To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and let us know which room you have in mind and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and go through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
Advice
Is bespoke worth it?
Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls. Off-the-shelf furniture is sized for an average room, and flats are rarely average, leaving gaps or crowding a door or radiator. Built-in pieces are designed around them.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Why choose us
- Finished by spray or by hand
- Scribed to uneven walls
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- We visit, measure and discuss the design before we quote
See how bespoke compares with ready-made or what to look for in a quote.
Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Bethnal Green
An tricky room is another reason. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.
If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:
- Too little room for clothes
- Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
- No space in front for doors to swing
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
If your home is one of the older houses near St Peter's, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Questions from Bethnal Green
Is Bethnal Green in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes. Bethnal Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Tower Hamlets and London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
I live near Cambridge Heath station. Is that in your area?
Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.
Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?
We make the wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense. We will look at the room with you at the measuring visit.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
Do pictures help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
