About our fitted wardrobes in Limehouse
We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. If you’re living with dusty space on top of the wardrobe and wardrobes that are full to bursting, fitted wardrobes made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Many homes around Limehouse were built since 2000, and a newer bedroom seldom comes with storage that fits how you live. Fitted wardrobes can be designed around the window, the radiator and the door swing, so the room still works. In a managed block, the lift and delivery rules are worth checking before fitting day.
Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- Structural changes to the room
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Questions from Limehouse
I live near Limehouse station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?
You choose the mix of hanging, shelves and drawers. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included. We talk it through at the measuring visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We talk through both during the design visit.
Fitted bedroom furniture in Limehouse
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Limehouse were built since 2000 (about 42%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Limehouse include Church of St Anne (Grade I), less than half a mile south, and Church of St Paul (Grade II*), less than half a mile north-east. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. A van working in Limehouse will usually need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension arranged through the council, which often needs notice. Parking is worth mentioning during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
For a flat near Limehouse station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For families living near Stepney Greencoat Church of England Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. The wider area includes historic houses such as Sutton House, about 2.4 miles north. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Boards, parts and paint
Doors and drawer fronts
Drawers can be hidden behind doors or shown as part of the front. Inside drawers keep the front simple.
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits wardrobe carcasses, shelves and drawers. Its layered edge can be painted or left on show.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Fitting day, step by step
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Newer homes often have finished floors, painted walls and new doors that mark easily, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Door frames and corners get covers too. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- You get in touch and let us know about the bedroom, and we arrange a design visit.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
- You receive a written quote setting out the wardrobes, doors and finish, so you can see what’s included.
- We make the carcasses, doors and drawers in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
Before fitting day
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
How to get a quote
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough measurements. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
Advice
Caring for painted furniture
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Check the route into your flat, not just the room
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and do not scrub the surfaces.
Now and then, check that handles and hinges are tight and adjust doors before a rub marks the paint.
