Fitted Wardrobes in Shoreditch

Planning fitted wardrobes for a home in Shoreditch? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing.

  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • A sloping ceiling that’s hard to use

Fitted wardrobes for your home in Shoreditch

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it’s easy to buy.

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Fitted wardrobes in Shoreditch

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, with long hanging at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it gets lower. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. If your home has bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall, that is what fitted wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A large share of the homes around Shoreditch date from 2000 onwards, and a newer bedroom seldom comes with storage that fits how you live. We design fitted wardrobes around the window, the radiator and the door. Where the flat is in a managed block, check the rules on deliveries and lifts before fitting day.

Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made in our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What we don’t do

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll tell you. How a job runs, step by step.

Fitted wardrobes in Shoreditch: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 39% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Shoreditch, with about 28% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Within a mile of the centre of Shoreditch, 30 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. A quarter or more of the homes in the streets around Shoreditch (about 28%) were built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Post-war bedrooms are typically simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick.

If you live near Artillery Ground, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For a family home near Virginia Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses such as Mansion House, about 1 mile south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

Shoreditch is part of the London Borough of Hackney. Shoreditch is part of the area we cover. We cover places right across Hackney.

In E1, E2 and N1, the process is the same as anywhere else in London. Streets in the area include New Road, Moor Lane and City Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for fitted wardrobes. Shoreditch is near the A1 and A10, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you get in touch. Close by, we also work in Haggerston (1 mile north), Hoxton (1 mile north-west), St Luke's (1 mile west), Spitalfields (1 mile south) and Finsbury (1 mile west). Across the rest of Hackney, our area takes in Homerton (2 miles north-east), West Hackney (2 miles north), Hackney (2 miles north-east), Lower Clapton (2 miles north-east), Stoke Newington (3 miles north) and Shacklewell (2 miles north). Before and after fitting day

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Empty the area where we will be working
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging
  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in

Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. A little airflow helps keep damp at bay.

Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can because damp air ends up in the wardrobes. Opening a window now and then helps.

Fitting day, step by step

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. The pieces are levelled and fixed with fixings that suit the wall. Hand-painted finishes can be completed once the furniture is in.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
  3. Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

How to get a quote

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, fill in our short enquiry form.

Advice

What it is made from

Hanging rails

Long rails need support so they do not bend under heavy coats to carry a full load. Rail lengths are planned so they stay straight.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Wardrobe doors are large, so stability matters. MDF gives a flat, smooth surface that paints well, whether the doors are plain or panelled.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Shoreditch?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking during the design visit.

I live near Shoreditch High Street station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Hackney and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will talk you through what to expect beforehand.

How is the price worked out?

Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. You’ll get a quote in writing once we have measured up.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
