How we make wall beds for Brent Park
Studio flats benefit more than most from a bed that folds away. By day, the room is a living space; at night, the bed comes down. Storage and shelving can go on either side or above, so the whole wall works hard. If you’re living with hiding the bed when it’s not in use and more floor space in a studio flat, wall beds made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.
A bedroom in a house from between the wars normally has simpler mouldings than a Victorian one, so fitted furniture can often run neatly to the ceiling. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Brent Park, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Questions we’re often asked
I live near Stonebridge Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Brent and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Is Brent Park in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes, we work across Brent, Brent Park included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
Flats, conversions and lettings
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the design visit.
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.
Is it time for wall beds?
Others want the bed to be part of a wider storage wall. Shelves, cupboards or a desk built around it turn one wall into storage, workspace and a bed.
We are often asked to help with:
- More floor space in a studio flat
- A home office that also sleeps guests
- A playroom that can sleep visitors
- A real mattress for visitors

Before you choose who makes it
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
Why bespoke in Brent Park?
If you may move soon, a standalone bed you can take with you could suit you better. It is worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before choosing built-in. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.

Materials and finishes
Spray-painted finish
The colour is agreed with you before we spray.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF stays flat and paints beautifully, which suits the doors and side panels.
How fitting works for wall beds
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

If your street in Brent Park is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay through the council may be needed. Let us know about parking during the design visit.
